Kim Kardashian has given us some pretty iconic hair over the years. From her platinum blond locks to plenty of wet hair looks, she’s always setting trends and inspiring our next hairdo. And, no surprise, she’s done it again. Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, who has been working with Kardashian for nine years, posted a video to Instagram on May 18 showing off a larger-than-life updo he created for her during a recent outing in Paris.

“Last night in Paris, I wanted Kim’s updo to speak volumes—timeless, but with a Strong edge to complement a look. Definitely a favorite 🔥,” Appleton wrote in the caption of the video. It does speak volumes—literally—with some seriously voluminous hair.

Though Appleton didn’t share how he created Kardashian’s look exactly, we’re thinking hair extensions have to be involved. As long and swoon-worthy as Kardashian’s hair is, there has to be some help—there’s just so much hair! It’s giving cinnamon roll hair bun vibes, which is, as the name suggests, a hairstyle that resembles a cinnamon roll, where you roll and twist hair in a circle to create a round bun shape. It’s popular with ballerinas and, as it appears, Kim Kardashian.

Eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that the oversize slicked-back bun also reminded them of another beauty icon: Jennifer Lopez—more specifically, her character Marisa Ventura from the 2002 romantic comedy Maid in Manhattan. In the movie, Lopez’s character attends a benefit gala in a strapless dress with a similar voluminous updo.

“It’s giving Maid in Manhattan and we are living for it,” one fan wrote in the comments.

The bun quickly solidified itself as an iconic beauty look in cinema history, so much so that when Lopez attended the Golden Globe Awards with a similar braided updo in 2020, more than 15 years after the movie’s premiere, fans immediately noticed that it was totally reminiscent of her early 2000s look. (Fun fact: Kardashian’s hairstylist Appleton created this look for Lopez as well.)

It’s definitely the season of the updo. Earlier on in her trip to the City of Love, Kardashian also opted for an (albeit much smaller) updo; on May 13, she was seen in a bun with some side bangs pulled out on her way to testify in the trial for her 2016 Paris robbery.
