Today, adidas officially unveils the limited edition Black History Month Footwear Collection, inspired by the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and philanthropist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Each shoe in the collection and special packaging features sepia tones, inspirational quotes and details that celebrate the four most important eras of Kareem’s career.

“I was very fortunate to have African-American role models and pioneers I could identify with and learn from as I forged my career in basketball and my personal journey in life,” said Abdul-Jabbar. “Every success I’ve had is due to countless hours of hard work physically and mentally, and I’m proud to tell that story and inspire the next generation of role models as we celebrate the accomplishments of African-American leaders next month.”

Derrick Rose, John Wall, Dame Lillard and other adidas Basketball athletes will debut the collection during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day games and in select games throughout February to celebrate Black History Month and honor African-American role models.

A portion of the proceeds from sales of the collection, which launches this month at adidas.com, will be donated to Kareem’s Sky Hook Foundation, which improves the lives of underprivileged youth. The Crazy 8 ($110) launches Jan. 23, J Wall 1 ($115) and D Rose 5 Boost ($140) on Jan. 30 and D Lillard 1 ($105) on Feb. 6.
