Earlier this month the artist formerly known as Kanye West backtracked on declaring himself a Nazi, but now he’s been spotted out in Los Angeles wearing a plain white t-shirt with a swastika on it.
As reported by TMZ, Ye was spotted in public wearing a t-shirt with the hate symbol on it. In the video published by the outlet, he could be seen making sure his t-shirt was in full frame on the camera capturing the moment. Shortly after the video started to circulate online, he shared a post on X that read, “It was always a dream of mine to walk around with a swastika T on.”
Before that, he tweeted in all caps about his swastika t-shirt dreams. “N***as rap about how many people they killed but they scared to wear a swastika t-shirt ’cause they labels and managers and streaming services and touring companies mob up to stop n***as money. Nobody better never say shit to me about my t-shirt. White people who are against the swastika don’t want to have a convo about black abortion.”
He also linked to an article on the Study Buddhism website about the Nazi connection to Shambhala and Tibet. The swastika was widely used by various religions throughout the world but was later appropriated by the German Nazi Party. The symbol as it appears on the T-shirt Ye wore, it should be noted, is the same placement and rotation as the Nazi Party insignia, a recognized hate symbol.
Ye was briefly selling a swastika T-shirt on the Yeezy website earlier this month, but it was later taken offline. He previously said that the use of the hate symbol on a T-shirt was intended to “show n***as that we don’t have to be afraid of white people.” He added, “When I use a swastika I render myself unusable to users.”
His latest hateful stunt comes after he put a public call for jewelers to make him a swastika chain. “For all jewelers I’m looking for swastika chain designs please submit to swastachain@yeezy.com,” he tweeted on Thursday, Feb. 27.
The multi-hyphenate, who used to make headlines for his music and fashion in simpler days, declared himself “a Nazi” shortly after a controversial Grammys red carpet appearance with his wife earlier this month. Then he backtracked and tweeted, “After further reflection I’ve come to the realisation that I’m not a Nazi.” Regardless of whether he considers himself a Nazi or not, he sure looks like one with that T-shirt.
