JJJJound is in an open relationship with the sneaker industry. Where most labels tend to lock down with one shoe brand partner for life (or at least until they get tired of one another), the Montreal design studio plays the field, collaborating with any sneaker brand they find in line with their sense of aesthetic. New Balance? They’ve done it. Asics? Crushed it. Adidas? Cross it off the list. They even went off the beaten path a while back and teamed with Bape on a minimalist Bapesta. And now, JJJJound continues its stellar run with a collaborator they haven’t worked with since 2022: Puma.

Three years ago, the two brands linked up for a China-exclusive take on the Puma Suede. It was a soft launch of a partnership about to hit shelves in full force. This week, JJJJound and Puma revealed a collaborative colorway on the Puma Mostro silhouette, an asymmetrical banger with little rubber spikes all across the sole.

JJJJound’s silhouette selection tends to skew on the classic side, so something like the Mostro feels like a bit of a left-field choice. The finished product justifies the leap, though. They’ve kitted out the uppers of the two colorways in brown and deep navy suede, respectively. Each color is paired with the same creamy off-white sole and laces. The finishing touch is a black sole covered in spikes that crawl up around the sides of the upper and onto the suede.

The Mostro is a weird little mutant of a shoe and it’s hard to imagine a brand like JJJJound being a good fit for it. Somehow they’ve defied expectations and churned out yet another banger. Maybe sneaker collab monogamy is overrated. Only through JJJJound’s open relationship with the industry have they managed to so consistently crush silhouettes like the Mostro.

The JJJJound x Puma Mostro drops on July 12 via JJJJound, Puma, and select retailers for $175.
