Jennifer Lawrence’s fashion flats are already being referred to online as cool-mom staples—which was, of course, always going to happen. Famous people announce they’re expecting a child, and all of a sudden their fashion choices are almost exclusively discussed in relation to their pregnancies. Rather than, I don’t know, being seen as a reflection of their tastes and interests as they’d be for any other person with a mind of their own.

“Wouldn’t it be great if we—yes, we know we play a part in propelling the pregnancy style juggernaut—didn’t weigh in on everything Jennifer Lawrence wears between now and the birth,” argued British Vogue’s executive fashion news and features editor Alice Newbold in a recent article. “Because spoiler alert: It’s likely to be the same mix of The Row, Leset, and Loewe.” True: The Dior shirtdress and triangular pumps that Lawrence wore yesterday evening to the Los Angeles screening of Zurawski v. Texas—a documentary about the impact of regressive anti-abortion laws in Texas that she executive-produced alongside Hillary Clinton—could have appeared at any point in time.
