Jennifer Aniston’s next role will be one for the books—er, from the book.
In the TV adaptation of Jennette McCurdy’s best-selling 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, Aniston is set to play McCurdy’s narcissistic mom, Debra, who died of cancer when McCurdy was 21. The series (and memoir) recounts McCurdy’s experiences as a Nickelodeon child star, exploring a toxic, co-dependent, abusive relationship with her mother, as well as her experiences with eating disorders, addiction, and unhealthy relationships.
Aniston has previously opened up about her own difficult relationship with her mother. In a 2018 interview with Elle she described her mother’s focus on dieting and beauty, and how that impacted her. “She was missing what was [actually] important,” Aniston said. “I think she was just holding on and doing the best she could, struggling financially and dealing with a husband who was no longer there. Being a single mom in the ’80s I’m sure was pretty crappy.”

The 10-episode series is written, executive produced, and showrun by McCurdy and film producer Ari Katcher (Ramy). Aniston, Sharon Horgan and Merman, LuckyChap (Margot Robbie’s production company), Jerrod Carmichael, and Erica Kay will also serve as executive producers.
This news comes ahead of Jennifer Aniston’s imminent return to our screens for the fourth season of The Morning Show in September, which will feature a two-year time jump after the events of season three in 2023.
