Jenna Bush Hager is the latest celeb to hop on the bob haircut trend. While co-hosting Today with Jenna & Friends with Leslie Bibb on June 16, Hager took the plunge and got her hair cut live on TV. It’s only fitting that she’d get a bob alongside her co-host Bibb, whose own haircut on season three of White Lotus quickly became the bob heard ‘round the world.
Bibb’s “c-nty little bob”, which it is now affectionately referred to as, was created by celebrity hairstylist Chris McMillan (he’s also the one responsible for Jennifer Aniston’s hair, including “The Rachel” cut she wore on Friends, NBD), so it’s safe to say he knows how to make iconic hair happen. So, Hager and Bibb called in the expert. McMillan got right to cutting Hager’s hair as she sat in a salon chair live on the show, and Bibb could not have been more supportive and excited for the transformation. “When I was here back in March, Jenna vowed to get onboard with the bob and today is the day,” Bibb exclaimed.
As McMillan prepared Hager for her big haircut, he explained that “bobs are like spring cleaning.” If you have hair damage, grown-out layers, want to even out your cut, or are just looking for a totally new and fresh start, a bob is a great choice. Pro tip: Make sure to bring pictures of some haircuts you love to your stylist as inspiration, which McMillan also recommended on the show.
McMillan gave Hager a modern take on the bob, which he described as “a little blunter” and “not so layer-y”, which is just like Bibb’s cut. As he cut Hager’s blonde, mid-length tresses, which she’s had for quite some time, he explained that it’s important to cut the bob above the shoulder to avoid it flipping at the ends. So, of course, he cut her hair above her shoulder, which is a dramatic transformation for her. Starting at the nape of the neck, where the hair is cut shorter, he snipped off several inches of hair, causing Hager to exclaim, “That’s so short!” TBH, we have the same reaction every time we go for a short haircut, too. Good to know we’re not the only ones.
Though McMillan didn’t finish Hager’s cut on the show, she revealed her bob on the next episode of Jenna & Friends on June 17. Bibb again joined her as co-host, and the two totally twin in their matching styles. Hager’s is a bit longer, softer, and not as blunt on the ends as Bibb’s, and it suits her perfectly. McMillan had said it would make her hair color look better, as blonde often looks lighter and brighter post-cut.
