Back in 2020, the actor-turned-internet personality-turned boxer Jake Paul went viral for eating cereal out of the highly coveted Dior x Air Jordan 1s. Now, it turns out that was nothing more than a stunt, which he confirmed on the latest episode of Sneaker Shopping.
Around the 5:17 mark, host Joe La Puma asked about the viral moment with his Dior x Air Jordan 1s where Paul confirmed he didn’t actually pour milk and Reese’s Puffs into the expensive collab, but into a plastic cup tucked within the interior.
“They were real Diors that I ate the Reese’s out of, but what we did was we cut a plastic red Solo cup in half and put it in there. So when I was pouring the milk in, it was just going right into the cup,” Paul said. “I paid like $10-15k for them so I wasn’t going to fuck them up.”
The Dior x Air Jordan 1 was released in July 2020 as a high-top ($2,200) and a low-top ($2,000). According to Pietro Beccari, the then-president and CEO of Christian Dior Couture, around 5 million people signed up to buy the sneakers and fetched well over $10,000 on the secondary marketplace following its launch.
