On December 10, the Ella McCay star arrived at the film’s world premiere dressed in items every woman should have in their wardrobe: a pair of light-wash cigarette jeans and a crisp white T-shirt. Edebiri dressed up the wardrobe staples with a long sequined floral vest tied with a black satin bow, finishing off the Chanel look with black-and-white pumps. These flourishes added a touch of formality that’s perfect for a holiday party in warmer climates like Los Angeles, where this particular screening took place.
Still, Chanel always looks best when it’s not treated like Chanel—a concept the brand’s new artistic director, Matthieu Blazy, has taken to heart. Edebiri could have easily pulled a suit or a gown from the brand’s archives, but instead she and stylist Danielle Goldberg reached for this off-the-runway look, which perfectly blends French heritage with American casual. In fact, Edebiri’s exact look debuted just last week when Blazy presented Chanel’s prefall runway show in a New York City subway station.
