At the Met Gala last night, Louis Vuitton proved that it truly understood the assignment.

Rather than leaning into complete period dressing, creative director Pharrell presented his vision of contemporary Black Dandyism, aligning with the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style as well as his era of Louis Vuitton menswear.

He effectively utilized crystal, pearls, metallics and—of course—the iconic damier print to fashion looks that exuded a sense of significance, like the Black dandies of the past but in a distinctly modern vein.

Longtime friend of P, Pusha T looked the part dressed up in a lightly pinstriped burgundy two piece suit (with matching tie). It was bedazzled on the shoulders, evoking a delicate snowfall upon the “Diet Coke” rapper.

Future appeared much more low-key than his fellow LV-clad attendees, though his quarter zip glen check co-ord set was surprisingly sparkly. Some simple black accessories—including a pair of leather gloves and a pair of the ButterSoft foot sneakers—finished the imitable ‘fit.

Doechii dared to fly closest to the past. A cravat-finished three-piece suit, an audacious interplay of colors, cuts, and proportions (we’re so here for the shorts-and-tailcoat combo), perfectly suited the Floridian rapper. Her look was uniquely rounded off by a LV monogram embossed on her cheek—a grand peacocking move that landed perfectly.

While the man himself, Pharrell, counteracted any undisguised historical references weaved into his clan’s attire with an assertively progressive look.

The musician-turned-designer rocked a white cropped evening jacket handmade entirely from two sizes of pearls—a gemstone that has been inextricably linked with LV since he began his reign in 2023.

It was with such unwavering commitment to authenticity that Pharrell led Louis Vuitton to its Met Gala triumph.
