We traveled from New York to Puma’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany, and back to 125th Street in the heart of Harlem to connect with the multi-talented, pretty motherf**ker, ASAP Rocky, to discuss his latest sneaker- The Puma Mostro Discord.
The Mostro has always been Rocky’s favorite Puma silhouette, and the Mostro Discord gives the classic design a fresh upgrade while preserving its core details.
“The Mostro was one of my favorite silhouettes, so we wanted to create my own version of it. We revised it and added a few new details, but we made sure to pay homage to the past by keeping the elements that people are most familiar with,” said Rocky.
While in Germany at Puma’s headquarters, we sat down with Puma’s lead Sportstyle Footwear designer for Rocky and Fenty, Jon Tang, to explore the process behind Rocky’s first signature Puma sneaker.
Tang describes the experience of working with Rocky to bring the design to life, which he defines as “Bio Grotesque DNA.” This concept blends goth and grotesque energy while leaning into “form, function, and familiarity.”
Tang reflected on his time working with Rocky on the Mostro Discord, emphasizing how they pushed boundaries and “got uncomfortable” while also tapping into nostalgia.
You can definitely see the nostalgia in the iconic PUMA Disc System from 1991, which is prominently placed on the upper. The shoe itself is sleek, sophisticated, and perfectly reflects Rocky’s current style.
“For 2025, man, I just really want to express myself without holding back,” Rocky said.
Rocky has nothing to lose, and that attitude is evident in his latest collaboration with the Puma Mostro Discord.
