To the generation that exclusively wore spongy thong sandals in dormitory showers, the concept of high-fashion flip-flops might sound like an oxymoron. Gigi Hadid, however, would beg to differ.
The supermodel stepped out in rainy New York City on May 28 wearing a pair of sunshine-yellow Havaianas flip-flops that were less “day at the beach,” more “runway-ready.” You might be thinking, Of course Gigi Hadid makes shower shoes look chic—it’s literally her job. It doesn’t hurt that she’s also wearing a designer dress (specifically, a gem-tweed Marc Jacobs micro-minidress), colorful beaded bracelets, and a beaded shoulder bag, with full glam, to boot.
But the thing about 2025’s flip-flops is that they kinda go with everything, and they definitely look good on everyone. Think of them as the new Birkenstock Arizonas, which—reminder—were deemed the “ugly shoe” when similar silhouettes first appeared on the runways more than 10 years ago.

Hadid was wearing Havaianas, an OG flip-flop maker, for the occasion of her outing, which makes sense because she was promoting her collaboration with the Brazilian brand. Aside from their punchy color, these Havaianas are also remarkable for their squared-off toe, which differentiates them from variations of yore, which may have been rounded at the toe, or platforms, or featuring super-thick straps, or some combination of the above.
