Is Lucas Bravo still Gabriel’s number one hater? The answer bodes well for some Emily in Paris fans.
Last year, Bravo raised eyebrows for being extremely honest about his opinions on Gabriel in the fourth season of the rom-com series starring Lily Collins. “Reading the script this last season, it was like, I don’t really like what it’s becoming and where this storyline is going,” he told SheKnows of Gabriel’s so-called “villain arc” in season four. “You know, at the end of the day, I’m just an actor, and I’m here to say my lines, but, yeah, it’s kind of weird.”
Fans were so taken aback by his candor that they began to predict his exit from the series, though he was later confirmed to appear in season five. That should have put the rumors to bed, though his recent omission from the first teaser trailer stirred up more questions—and Bravo doesn’t seem to mind the discourse.
Here’s everything we know about Lucas Bravo’s beef with his character, what he’s said in recent interviews, and whether or not we can expect to see much for Gabriel in Emily in Paris season 5.
Okay, so what’s the deal with those season four interviews?
Basically, Bravo was not a fan of Gabriel’s hot-and-cold behavior in the most recent season, and he wasn’t shy about it. “I don’t understand him anymore,” Bravo told SheKnows in September 2024. “But we’ll see…Darren has plans. I’m just following it.”
At the time, many fans thought he seemed “soo done with this season,” with one user commenting, “I love how Lucas Bravo isn’t even Team Gabriel 😂.”
Bravo then continued to stir the pot, admitting that he “grew apart” from the Michelin star chef as the show progressed. “The ‘sexy chef’ was very much part of me in season one and we grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take,” Bravo told IndieWire in October 2024.
Of the writing, he continued, “They made him kind of unaware of his surroundings, of the dynamic, always victimizing and always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him and being manipulated by everyone. It kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much being slowly turned into guacamole. I really grew apart from him.”
He also told the French magazine Le Figaro that he wasn’t sure about returning to the Netflix series, despite his character’s hopes to win Emily back (again). “The filming of this series lasts five months. Do I want to sacrifice them to do something that doesn’t excite me?” he asked, rhetorically. Ultimately, he said “it will depend on the script.”
