Looks like Elle Fanning is a Charli XCX fan.
See, Charli XCX was actually the first to announce that a “Joachim Trier Summer” is upon us. The artist did so a few weeks ago at Coachella, where she eulogized the end of “brat summer” and used her platform to hype some creative projects that would be released this summer 2025: Lorde’s and HAIM’s new records and David Cronenberg’s and Joachim Trier’s new films.

In Sentimental Value, Fanning plays a Hollywood actor who arrives in Norway to shoot a film. (She herself is a Hollywood actor who went to Norway to shoot Sentimental Value, lending a meta edge.) The gown had a small train, but it was not so cumbersome as to violate the strict rules of the Cannes dress code, which prohibit trains that obstruct passage on the red carpet.
On X, one fan wrote, “No one will ever love you as much as Elle Fanning’s stylist loves Elle Fanning,” referring to the creations that on every occasion Samantha McMillen unearths especially for the actress, with whom she has worked for more than 10 years.

While arriving in Cannes earlier in the day, Fanning sported a trench coat and sunglasses, later changing into a pink dress from Chanel’s Resort collection that was presented just last week at Lake Como. Later in the afternoon, she went for a total Coach look, wearing a blue dress that perfectly matched her ballet flats and handbag.
