A day after Taylor Swift revealed that she plans to vote for the Harris/Walz presidential ticket this November, former President Donald Trump reacted to the news with a prediction: she will “pay a price.”

By Trump standards, it was a somewhat sensical statement (again, by Trump standards). Calling in to his favorite form of therapy, Fox & Friends, the morning after the debate, Trump seemed unsurprised by Swift’s statement. “I was not a Taylor Swift fan. It was just a question of time…” he said, per People, adding, “But she’s a very liberal person. She seems to always endorse a Democrat. And she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.” (He also rambled about Biden and Brittany Mahomes. OK.)

Not technically incorrect? The few times that Swift has specifically endorsed a political candidate, they have been Democrats. Whether or not she’s a “very liberal person” probably depends on your definition of “very,” but she’s certainly more liberal than Trump is.

As for the effect her statement will have on her earnings…it’s doubtful that it will make much impact. Yes, there are conservative Swifties and fans who would rather their favorite musicians and celebrities simply stay out of politics, but considering that Swift endorsed the Biden/Harris ticket four years ago, if being a Democrat were going to hurt her career, it would have happened already. She’s only gotten more successful since.

Now, as for whether or not Donald Trump truly is not at all Taylor Swift fan, that’s actually debatable. In 2018, when Swift first took a stance on partisan politics, Trump famously said he liked her “25% less.” This implies that he liked her some amount before, and 75% of that amount after. Did he stop liking her altogether after losing in 2020? And he didn’t like anything off of Midnights? Back when he was accepting her (totally fake, AI-generated) endorsement he seemed happy to have her on board.
