Partially thanks to the brave limbs of Paul Mescal and Chris Pine, we’ve reached the waning days of 2024’s summer of short shorts. But for all this talk of how Brat season might spill over into autumn, there’s a related query to be gleaned here: Why restrict one’s thigh-baring hours based on the sun’s position in the sky? (To be sure, the more pressing question here—could climate change yield a “short shorts fall”?—is above my pay grade.)
Spiritually speaking, “short shorts summer” is more of a state of mind anyways—and Donald Glover has been aboard this train for years, even earning a spot on our annual Biggest Fits list in 2022 for his barely-there outfit of retro Brooks running shorts, a yellow bucket hat, and not much else.
On Sunday, Glover went for an afternoon stroll in Manhattan with his wife Michelle White. Befitting the balmy city temperatures, the Mr. and Mrs. Smith actor wore a cream-toned mesh knit tank top, dark shades, and another pair of retro-style running shorts—this time, in orange with goldenrod piping. On his feet were a pair of artfully frayed white tennis shoes, which some Glover fans might recognize as the Adidas “Nizza” trainers from his 2019 collaboration with the brand. He accessorized with a gold chain, a black Apple Watch, and a navy crewneck sweatshirt draped over his forearm—which may indeed come in handy if he plans to wear those short shorts into autumn.
