After a period away from the spotlight, Johnson has been back in the spotlight in recent weeks. The main reason is that she’s releasing a new film, Materialists (in theaters on June 13) starring Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans, although the outfits she’s sporting during this promotional tour have even competed with the film itself for the spotlight.
Contrary to the elegant minimalism and relaxed boho attire that have always characterized her style, the actor has decided to break away from her established aesthetic and give it a darker twist. We know this because all of her latest looks have embraced a much more sober aesthetic and because they also have a clear common thread: the color black.
To present her new romantic dramedy directed by Celine Song (Past Lives) at the Tribeca Film Festival, Dakota Johnson wore a jet-black satin dress with an asymmetrical neckline by Gucci, which was tied like a scarf around her neck and left her back bare. Austere and very elegant, she complemented it with sunglasses, simple high-heeled sandals and some bold earrings by Messika to add more drama to the whole outfit.
