Reebok is back in the golf game. Since the brand was acquired by Authentic Brands Group in 2021, there’s been a push to get Reebok involved more deeply involved in sports. That continues today with the announcement of the Reebok Nano Golf, a new golf shoe built on the brand’s Nano sneakers. And Reebok has enlisted golfer Bryson DeChambeau to start the charge up the leaderboard.
DeChambeau is a pro on the LIV Golf Tour and has won two major PGA Championships. He’s also the captain of Crushers GC, which won the 2023 LIV team championship. He’s gained a considerable amount of attention on social media for his daily quest to hit a hole in one over his house.
Before he signed to Reebok to help bring the brand back into golf, he was a fan of Reebok growing up.
“My first memory of Reebok as a kid was watching Shaquille O’Neal play ball in Reebok shoes,” DeChambeau says. “I was a Lakers fan growing up, and it was really fun to watch what an amazing player he was.”
DeChambeau signing to Reebok might be all business, but he doesn’t want his involvement with the brand to come off as such. As noted by his personality online and on the course, he wants to be able to bring a sense of fun to golf and Reebok’s presence in the sport.
“The partnership with Reebok came to life through a shared interest to do things differently,” he says. “I’m proud to join the brand as they re-enter the category through new and exciting ways, we’re focused on an irreverent approach to the game to attract new athletes to the game I love.”
DeChambeau says his goal with Reebok is to get new people into the sport of golf and help the game grow. Part of that has to do with making things that up-and-coming golfers can actually afford to buy.
“We’re committed to growing the game to new audiences by providing accessibly priced products and activations that support reaching the new population of golfers,” DeChambeau says.
This all starts with the Reebok Nano Golf. The upper of the shoe looks similar to Reebok Nanos of the past, which many may know as the brand’s premier training shoe that has a stronghold in the CrossFit community, and for a decade was the official shoe of CrossFit. The Nano has since ventured off into other sports, with the introduction of a version made for pickleball this year. The Nano Golf, as the name suggests, has a tread on it built for golfing.
As for the shoe, DeChambeau says: “The Reebok design team has been incredibly collaborative in the development of the Nano Golf and Reebok Golf apparel line. I’ve been able to share my feedback and design input to help shape what the future of the Reebok Golf line looks like.”
In addition to looking good on the course, he said that the key things he looks for in a golf shoe are “comfort, stability, and grip.”
Those are attributes that we can expect to see in the Nano Golf and Reebok’s launch of golf apparel, which will all happen in March. “I’ve been playing in the Nano Golf and am extremely impressed—excited for everyone to get their hands on them,” DeChambeau says.
Reebok says that DeChambeau’s entire Crushers team, consisting of teammates Paul Casey, Charles Howell III, and Anirban Lahiri, will all be wearing head-to-toe Reebok this upcoming year.
DeChambeau confirms that there will be branded clothing on the way, but can’t confirm anything as far as exclusive footwear goes.
Reebok’s origins in golf go back to the 1980s, back when the sneaker brand was on top of the world. It will be interesting to see how the brand’s move back to golf will help its fortunes in the future. But with DeChambeau connected to Reebok, the future looks bright.
