Bobby Hundreds and Justin Chon are reuniting for the small screen.
According to Deadline, the creative duo is developing a half-hour drama series based on their experiences in the streetwear scene. The show, titled Burnfield, is set for FX; however, there’s no information on casting, plotlines, or a premiere date.
Sources told the outlet Hundreds and Chon will serve as co-creators and showrunners, with the former attached as a screenwriter and the latter as a director. The two will also executive produce the series alongside Garrett Basch, the award-winning producer behind What We Do in the Shadows, Reservation Dogs, Ripley, and more.
The news comes after Hundreds and Chon were tapped for the eponymous Sublime biopic. Variety reports the two will write the screenplay based on Chris Mundy’s original draft. Francis Lawrence (Red Sparrow, I Am Legend, and the Hunger Games franchise) will direct the music film in development at Sony’s 3000 Pictures. Riverdale actor KJ Apa has signed on to play Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell.
Hundreds is best known as the co-founder of The Hundreds, a Los Angeles-based streetwear brand founded in 2003. The multi-hyphenate spoke about the company in a 2011 Complex feature in which he listed The Hundreds among the “50 Greatest Streetwear Brands of All Time.”
“I will proudly claim that we are the world’s first and only social merchandising brand,” he wrote. “We originated the relationship between streetwear and the internet, and we still do it better than anyone else… And out of anyone else in this list, we do our darndest to keep the spirit of streetwear alive, with deliberate distribution, staying cautious of volume retailers and most mall doors, pushing the scene and our fellow brands, and spending entire Saturdays writing out lists like these for free.”
In addition to his directorial and acting work, Chon owned and operated a chain of apparel stores called The Attic. Founded around 2006, the retailer offered brands like Nike; Vans; Crooks & Castles; I Am King; and, of course, The Hundreds.
