Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds may be a boy, and a Canadian, and a member of Gen X, but thanks to wife Blake Lively, he has the heart of an American millennial girlie, and we’re so grateful.
In an Instagram post, Lively praised the many ways Reynolds has taken his wife’s interests to heart, posting a picture of the two of them kissing followed by a video montage of Reynolds, as Deadpool/Wade Wilson, making references to millennial pop culture.
“Tell me Deadpool’s married to a millennial girl in real life without telling me…” says Lively to the camera before the montage starts. It includes the masked merc listening to Avril Lavigne, referencing Harry Potter and Frozen, listening to Celine Dion (while striking a pose from ’80s classic Flashdance, but we won’t hold that against him), calling a goth girl “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” name-dropping Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony, saying his hair is a “summer balayage,” and referencing Judy Blume (a classic for all ages but, again, go with it).

In the caption, Blake Lively enthused over her husband embracing her interests, writing, “Brb I’m buying milky pens to write your name on my hand @vancityreynolds.” She noted that her own movie, It Ends With Us, is coming out soon, but she’s not competitive, and in fact thinks women should see Deadpool & Wolverine when it hits theaters, continuing, “It’s hard not to encourage my ladies to spot all the ways we’ve influenced @deadpoolmovie I’ve never been more proud. And I’ve given birth 4 times. 🤣” Is the “my ladies” a hint that she’s playing Lady Deadpool in the movie? Guess we gotta buy a ticket if we want to find out.
In other words, back off, Gen Z. Deadpool & Wolverine is rated R, and while some of you Zoomers are adults, a bunch of you aren’t, so stay home. The big kids are reminiscing.
