Why yes, Apple Martin is wearing her mother Gwyneth Paltrow’s iconic Calvin Klein slip dress at the premiere of Marty Supreme. Because, frankly, if your mom has Gwyneth Paltrow’s wardrobe, why would you bother shopping at all? And she’s hardly the only celebrity kid who’s been caught raiding mom’s closet for the red carpet lately.
On December 16 Martin joined her mother for the Marty Supreme premiere in New York City, and we couldn’t help but notice that the black slip dress looked extremely familiar. In fact, it is the same black slip dress that Paltrow herself wore to the premiere of Emma in New York City in 1996. Martin even replicated her mother’s styling—wearing her blonde hair swept into a bun with some face-framing pieces in front and almost no jewelry. You know what they say: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Paltrow has said in interviews over the years that her daughter likes to borrow from her closet, and no wonder why. “Apple borrows from my closet,” she told People in 2021. “But she likes my T-shirts and my shoes. She likes my shoes.”
So who else has been wearing vintage mom on the red carpet lately?

In November, Delilah Belle Hamlin wore her mother Lisa Rinna’s white Gucci dress to the GQ Man of the Year Awards. Rinna originally wore the dress to the Carousel of Hope Ball in 1996. It looks like Hamlin may have even picked up a few posing tips.

In October, Catherine Zeta-Jones’s daughter, Carys Douglas, borrowed the lacy black dress Zeta-Jones wore to the 2005 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for a gala event with her dad, Michael Douglas.
And those are just examples from the past couple of months. Salma Hayak’s daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, wore her mother’s 1997 Isaac Mizrahi to the Oscars in 2023. Also in 2023, Grier Henchy borrowed a dress that her mom, Brooke Shields, wore in 2006. Kaia Gerber’s white Hervé Leger bodycon dress was a re-creation of the dress her mother, Cindy Crawford, wore back in 1993, but we think it still counts.
Celebrity children have also borrowed their mom’s famous clothes for off-the-red-carpet events. Busy Philipps’s daughter, Birdie, wore her mom’s ’90s vintage Betsey Johnson dress to an Olivia Rodrigo concert in 2021. Heidi Klum’s daughter Leni wore a dress of her mom’s from 1998 to her prom. In 2021 the Dior dress Shiloh Jolie borrowed from mom Angelina Jolie wasn’t even vintage—it was from 2019.
