To be clear: Not everything will be on sale during Prime Day. In fact, it’s a lot of mediocre deals you can afford to miss, with a few honest-to-god bargains good enough to warrant your hard-earned time and money. And if you want to navigate the Prime Day sales smartly, stay tuned over here as we relay what to buy and what’s a bust.
What Should I Buy on Prime Day?
If you’re in the market for bigger-priced items—from flat-screen TVs to noise-canceling headphones, robot vacuums, and Alexa everything—it’s worth holding out for major lightning deals, Prime Day is the best time to make your move on tech products. Likewise, if you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on new furniture and bed sheets to spruce up your apartment, Prime Day will save you big.
Last year, we also saw a lot more style-editor-approved pieces on sale than we expected, from hoodies to watches. Need a new toothbrush or razor? Prime Day’s usually a great time to snag some discounted grooming gear.
It remains to be seen how this Prime Day will differ from last year’s, but we’re pretty confident there’ll be at least a few constants. There will probably be a handful of once-in-a-blue-moon deals—including some spicy offers on all things Apple, Bose, and Sony—some of which might disappear almost as fast as you can click “add to cart.”
Early Prime Day Tech Deals
Just as Memorial Day and Labor Day are go-time for buying a new mattress on sale, there’s really no better time for snagging tech deals than Amazon Prime Day—particularly for buys from Samsung and Beats and also on things like Bluetooth speakers, earbuds, chargers, iPads, iRobots, Amazon Fire TV, Echo, Kindle, laptops, and beyond. While we love a good sound upgrade—for which there have been ample solid additions this year—you really can’t go wrong with TVs, tablets, and robot vacuums all of which are on big-time sale.
Early Prime Day Home Deals
Even while there are bigger holidays for bedding deals, we’re not going to say that the ones on Amazon Prime’s big sale aren’t worth shopping. If you hunt hard enough—or follow the people who hunt hard enough (us)—you’ll score super-soft sheets, air purifiers, coffee makers, air fryers, and endless other deals that update your digs.
Early Prime Day Grooming Deals
Also great to stock up on during the savings event? The stuff that you have in hand every single day—or at least every week—like razors, beard trimmers, toothbrushes, and moisturizers. Leading up to Prime Day, you can expect to see discounts on some of our favorites—like what you’ll find below. Special shout out to the CK nostalgia.
Early Prime Day Clothing Deals
Seriously, do not sleep on Amazon as a go-to for wardrobe staples. If you need new sneakers or if your T-shirts have gotten a little dingy or have stains that even OxyClean can’t tackle, the time is nigh to refresh them. Polos, white sneaks, and underwear are just the beginning here.
How Can I Find the Best Prime Day Deals?
You could madly refresh the Amazon homepage for 48 hours straight. Or you could get the drop on Prime Day details as they pop up in real-time—particularly on GQ-vetted-and-approved product picks—by following our coverage here and subscribing to the GQ Recommends newsletter.
You’ll get a few emails throughout the Amazon Prime Big Deal Days sale highlighting the most brain-busting early deals across tech, home goods, grooming, menswear, and beyond, all of ‘em handpicked by a cadre of GQ editors feverishly sifting through page after page of mediocre products to find you the very best Prime Day deals of the moment.
This Whole Prime Day Pitch Sounds Intriguing, But what should I do between now and then?
If you don’t already have a Prime membership, Prime Day may be the smartest time to test-drive a free 30-day trial so you can sneak inside the doors before the big shebang officially starts. Already a Prime member? You’re ahead of the game. It doesn’t hurt to start thinking about your shopping list ahead of time so you can step in the ring with a game plan before items sell out.
