Amanda Seyfried Embraced the Long-Hair Trend That’s Making Waves This Winter

Have you been wondering what the cool girls are doing with their hair this winter? Well, Amanda Seyfried, for one, is embracing winter waves, which we heartily cosign.

On October 21, the Mean Girls actor was spotted in New York City with her center-parted hair worn down in sleek but laid back waves. Think a more relaxed and grown-up version of her hair in the Mamma Mia! movies. Seyfried continued the low-key vibes with the rest of her ensemble, which included wide-legged jeans, a black turtleneck, and a sizeable black woven leather bag.

Amanda Seyfried’s waves are a little looser and more natural-looking than some of the most popular styles of the past few years. This intentionally undone look has lately been referred to as Nirvana waves or ghost waves, and relies on embracing one’s natural hair texture. In the spring and summer months, however, the style is sometimes called mermaid waves, because of the way it mimics the look of hair immediately after swimming in the ocean.

Miley Cyrus also stepped out rocking her natural waves recently, reminding us of her Hannah Montana era, when she rocked her natural brunette curls on the regular. Cyrus was coincidentally photographed wearing pretty much the same outfit as Seyfried, and we’ll just put this out there: Sister movie?

Jennifer Lawrence is another fan of ghost waves. The actor is often spotted out and about in New York City with her natural curls adding some texture to her look. The key to the style is to not be too precious about a perfect spiral.

Perhaps the most exciting thing about the winter waves trend is how easily it can be achieved. One tried and true method is to simply braid your hair before going to sleep, then take the braids out in the morning to reveal effortlessly textured hair, no heat required.
