If there’s one word to describe this look, it’s mermaid. Complimentary. Pearls, as we know, are created by oysters, so their use as a design element always has a been of an “Under the Sea” vibe, and the way there are layers of them here, along with beads, draped from the middle, creating, perhaps…kind of a tail? Dare we say…reef princess?

It reminds one of Marion Cotillard’s Jean Paul Gaultier gown at the 2005 Academy Awards, which wasn’t pearled or beaded but was similarly fishy in a totally couture and upscale way, and has remained lodged in this writer’s memory for twenty effing years at this point.
