Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance have been best buds for about six years now. During that time, the duo have worked on some of the most hyped sneakers of the decade—most notably the duo’s inescapable spin on the 550 basketball model in 2020. Now, for the first time ever, the New York City streetwear label’s working on a fully original silhouette: the Aimé Leon Dore x New Balance RC56.
First teased in an ALD look book earlier this year, the RC56—a brand-new sneaker designed to look like an old-school sneaker—has been unwrapped in three colorways. Riffing off New Balance’s deep, deep archives, there’s the ‘Pristine’ version, which arrives in white with dark green accents; the ‘Navy,’ contrasted with bright yellow tones; and the ‘Green,’ which falls more in line with ALD’s classic palette—and will probably be the one that sells out first.
All three pairs work are built on top of a breathable mesh base. The bottom half of the upper is dripped out in a nylon-esque fabric, while the top half is covered in smooth leather. Across the sides, you’ll find a “N” logo that also acts as part of the lacing system (a move borrowed from the New Balance 2002R), and “Aimé” is stamped on the tongue.
