Cillian Murphy is on one helluva ride. After raking in nearly one billion dollars in the worldwide box office, Oppenheimer is in the final lap of promotions during its pre-Oscars campaign. The film nabbed a whopping 13 nominations, with Oppie Murphy himself scoring a nod in the best actor category.
The Academy Awards might still be five weeks away, but Murphy’s continuing his long-standing tradition of stunting during the press junkets—don’t forget his pre-SAG strike anti-Barbie red carpet fits and healthy sun-kissed look—with a very London-appropriate fit from a notorious Irishman.
During an Oppenheimer BFI screening in London, Murphy donned a cardigan from UK brand YMC, an acronym for “you must create,” which features midcentury appeal that’s only been growing in popularity in the last few months. The Rat Pack cardigan, a mainstay style from YMC, features a full-placket closure and collar, reminiscent of the style that so many of the actual Rat Pack would wear in the ‘60s. (It’s a look that’s so popular that even Ryan Gosling has been known to wear this style of cardigan during his press run for Barbie.)
YMC’s been in the game since 1995, specializing in utilitarian designs inspired by work- and military-wear. Its tiny flourishes to each of its pieces can make what could be boring clothes into something that’s pretty bangin’.
For this film screening, Murphy wore the Rat Pack cardigan in a subtle colorway, featuring both horizontal and vertical navy and dark-blue stripes. We like that the star opted to keep his cardigan open to let his white tee pop through as to tone down the pretty flashy pattern—or at least “flashy” for the typically understated actor. If you’re hoping to give YMC’s cardigan a try, but aren’t feeling the stripes, the brand makes the Rat Pack in a number of color options—like solids to bold prints—to various materials—ranging from merino wool to acrylic.
Murphy’s exact Rat Pack cardigan is available in just a handful of sizes (and it’s on sale!) but you can find the brand’s popular knitwear in stock in a whole bunch of other options. He might not have the Oscar yet, but Cillian Murphy, you’re a winner in our book with this sweater flex.
