Martine Rose has been appointed the new creative director of Balenciaga.
As confirmed by Balenciaga’s parent company Kering, the British-Jamaican designer, who runs her own eponymous fashion label, will take on the creative director role for the luxury fashion house starting Nov. 16. She is succeeding Pierpaolo Piccioli, who announced his departure from the brand this month after holding the creative director title since May 2025.
“It is a true privilege to be appointed Creative Director of Balenciaga, a House with an extraordinary heritage and a fearless creative spirit,” said Martine Rose on her new title. “Balenciaga has been shaped by remarkable creative talents before me. I am committed to honoring this legacy and look forward to creating the next chapter in this rich and beautiful story.”
Rose has built a name for herself ever since she established her eponymous fashion label in 2007, with designs that draw from her experiences in various subcultures growing up in London. She has collaborated with some of the biggest companies in fashion, including Nike and, more recently, Supreme. When Demna Gvasalia, now at Gucci, joined Balenciaga as creative director in 2015, Rose was hired as a consultant.
“Martine Rose is an extraordinary creative talent with a bold and highly distinctive vision,” said Balenciaga CEO and president, Gianfranco Gianangeli. “Her ability to challenge conventions, reinvent silhouettes, and bring an unexpected perspective to fashion resonates deeply with the spirit of innovation that defines Balenciaga. We are delighted to welcome her as Creative Director and look forward to this exciting new chapter for the House.”
Kering CEO Luca de Meo added that Rose and her designs embody the spirit of Balenciaga.
“Her connection to the new generation and her instinctive understanding of culture bring a new dimension to the House,” said de Meo. “Her appointment reflects our ambition to keep Balenciaga at the forefront of innovation, creativity, and culture.”
