Hilary Duff, a 2000s style icon, doesn’t have fond memories of her early style choices.

The actress and singer was interviewed for a new PAPER Magazine cover story, where she cringed about one trendy piece from her Lizzie McGuire years. Duff played the titular character on the former Disney Channel show, which ran for two seasons from 2001 to 2004. She also starred in family flicks including The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Agent Cody Banks and the Cheaper By the Dozen franchise in the same decade.

“Yeah, I have PTSD about how many shawls I wore,” Duff, 39, told the publication. “I’m gonna have to find a shawl that doesn’t remind me of the ones I wore.”

The entertainer did, however, co-sign a few Y2K pieces that have made a comeback in 2026.

“I’m actually super glad low-rise jeans are back. I don’t think I could wear skin-tight low-rise jeans like I used to, but a baggy low-rise jean, I’m super into,” she said, going on to share that she favors other “baggy” clothing.

“I think some of my choices back then were a little too mismatched, and I’m happy to leave that in the past. But the pressure is gone, which is nice,” Duff also admitted.

Duff, who released her sixth studio album, Luck… or Something, in February after a decade-long hiatus from music, is currently on The Lucky Me Tour, which wraps in Anaheim, California on Nov. 21. The vocalist will also perform four dates on the Jingle Ball 2026 Tour in December, beginning Dec. 4 in Los Angeles.
