In January, Willy Chavarria did his big one. His Fall/Winter 2026 show in January was less a runway presentation and more of a live performance art piece. It featured the debut of a diffusion workwear line, Big Willy, and showcased Mexico gear with Adidas ahead of the World Cup. It was massive and memorable. For Spring/Summer 2027’s Comunión, Chavarria dialed things back a bit. The venue was much smaller. There were no theatrics. The focus was put back on the clothing itself, which was split evenly between men’s and women’s looks. And it absolutely delivered.
Chavarria continues to fine tune his approach to refined workwear through the lenses of Chicano culture and luxury fashion. Billowing, below-the-knee shorts, slouchy pinstriped suits, and buttery leather jackets styled with the collars popped stole the show. Pops of color–bright red, seafoam green, royal blue, orange, baby pink, and lilac–were used in all the right places. Floral patterns were meant to evoke the feelings of comfort that many of us grew up seeing around our childhood homes on peeling wallpaper, furniture, or fine china. A collaboration with Ugg, which ranged from rugged boots to cozy house slippers, felt like they could last a lifetime in any wardrobe. The selection of handbags was another bright spot, proof that Chavarria has a future in the category that he can keep exploring. Overall, the showing was proof that Chavarria doesn’t need a spectacle and massive brand budgets to deliver something that will resonate.
