Dua Lipa is giving the world its first real look at her wedding dress, and it was made by one of fashion’s most talked-about new creative directors.
The singer posted a series of photos to Instagram on June 21, captioned “Mr & Mrs.,” unveiling the custom Chanel haute couture gown she wore to her June 6 ceremony at Villa Valguarnera in Palermo, Sicily.
The gown, designed by Matthieu Blazy, is a backless halter silhouette covered in almost half a million beads that also bears 25,000 feathers. A feathered headpiece accompanied a hand-embroidered veil finished with beads, feathers, and hand-cut organza appliqués.
Lipa’s gown is the inaugural Chanel haute couture wedding gown created by Blazy for a friend of the house since he took the helm.
The relationship between Lipa and Blazy predates his arrival at Chanel. She wore his work repeatedly during his tenure at Bottega Veneta and attended his debut couture show for Chanel in Paris in March. The gown itself was handcrafted at the house’s atelier at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris, according to a Chanel press release.
Husband Callum Turner wore a custom Louis Vuitton suit for the Sicilian ceremony. Wedding photos were shot by photographer David Sims.
The images posted Sunday show the couple in a playful dance inside the venue, a black-and-white portrait embracing on a stone terrace, a solo shot of Lipa framed by an archway, and a sweeping view of the embroidered veil behind her.
The Sicily celebration, reported to have cost roughly $1.73 million, unfolded at Villa Valguarnera, an 18th-century palace known locally as “little Versailles,” first commissioned in 1712. Guests included Charli xcx, Mark Ronson, Troye Sivan, Joe Alwyn, Donatella Versace, and Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. Elton John performed “Your Song” at the reception.
Lipa and Turner had legally wed three weeks earlier, on May 31, in a private civil ceremony at Old Marylebone Town Hall in London. Lipa wore a custom Schiaparelli haute couture skirt suit styled as a nod to Bianca Jagger; Turner wore a bespoke Ferragamo suit by Maximilian Davis. Lipa shared photos from that ceremony on June 2.
