Caterina Mongillo is the Italian artist behind the multidisciplinary design studio Metagirl, built on the idea that femininity is something everyone carries. That philosophy runs straight through this collaboration.
The Old Skool 36 silhouette gets a canvas upper dressed in snakeskin detailing, with studs pressed into the foxing tape along the vamp. The Sidestripe—one of the most recognizable marks in sneaker history—is deliberately frayed, its raw edges standing in contrast to high-shine hardware and embellishments elsewhere on the shoe. The result is a Y2K-inflected tension between polish and roughness that feels very much like Metagirl’s signature.
