What’s a piece of financial advice that has stuck with you?
I once saw an interview that a very well-known jewelry designer did around the same time I was launching Uncommon James about funding. She said if you’re able to not take any funding on and can do it yourself then that’s the move. That always stuck with me. After almost nine years, I still haven’t taken on any outside funding. I’m still 100% owner and I’m really proud of that.
What’s a key piece of parenting advice you’d give a new mom?
To trust your gut and listen to yourself and your baby. Everyone will have an opinion about what’s right, but every baby is different and every situation is different, so a mom is the only one who always knows best.
What’s your most reliable to-go work outfit?
I’m not going for comfort when I’m in the office. That’s my excuse to get dressed up. But if I’m working from home then I’m definitely in a pair of Uncommon James sweats.
What’s the last great book you read?
I just finished 28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand and cried like a baby at the end. Before that, I read Verity by Colleen Hoover. I cannot wait to see that movie now.
What’s the last thing you bought you were excited about?
I just bought a few new bikinis. I don’t have anything planned, but I need the sun and I’m manifesting a trip.
What’s one thing you have your eye on to buy?
This answer isn’t glamorous, but we just had a crazy ice storm in Tennessee and I lost power, so I’ll be buying a generator.
Explain the moment you realized, “Okay, I might actually be successful…”
I’ve really only started to feel that within the last year or two. I’ve worked really hard for many, many years and I feel like I can finally take a breath.
What’s your favorite low-stakes treat after a productive day?
I’m obsessed with these nut butter-stuffed chocolate covered dates by Gato. I can never eat just one, though.
Your go-to thank you gift?
Always one of the Uncommon James candles, usually the Campfire Cowboy scent.
Your go-to email sign off?
I have an automatic sign off in my Uncommon James emails that says “Kristin Cavallari, Founder & CEO” with our logo underneath. But on my personal email, I’m horrible and hardly ever do a sign-off. Or I’ll do “talk soon!”
I know it’s like picking your favorite child, but what’s the one item in your line that you consider your baby?
The Girl Boss earrings, because they were what put us on the map and to this day they’re in our top five best sellers.
