The return of ‘90s pants to the trend cycle proves we’re in the middle of a nineties revival. It comes at a perfect time. Love Story, which follows John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette and their complicated relationship before their untimely death in 1999, has been a streaming hit. One of the decade’s biggest brands, Calvin Klein, is back at Fashion Week after a long break from the catwalk. And street style stars are increasingly being seen in the big fashion hits of the time—including floral dresses with spaghetti straps, midi skirts in beige and gray, and minimalist strappy sandals.

If you want an elegant French-chic look, go for cropped and narrow suit pants like those worn by Carolyn Bessette in the ‘90s. Many of these are made with an elastic stretch fabric; so not only are they super elegant, but they’re comfortable all day long too. Perfect for the office.

For a more modern look, cropped wide-leg jeans are also totally on trend this year. The volume of the trousers is perfectly balanced out by the shorter length, and the overall look is great for low-key settings and weekend hangs.
Whether you’re dressing up or looking to be more casual, cropped pants are best styled with a minimalist shoe like a black loafer or ballet flats with a small heel. A Mary Jane looks particularly beautiful with this combo too—the shoe really comes into its own with the cropped length.
