Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, and it has my mind on the best date night perfumes. Whether you’re hosting a Galentine’s party with the girls or heading out for a romantic meal with your other half, a spritz of your favorite scent can change the whole mood. It’s the quickest confidence boost going, whether you’re a Valentine’s fan or a certified hater (no judgement here).
As a beauty writer and self-confessed fragrance snob, I’ve tested more perfumes than I’d care to admit—my bathroom shelf is basically a mini fragrance shop at this point. I love having options, but I do have a special ‘date night’ shortlist, the scents that make me feel my best and get me compliment after compliment. The ultimate sign one’s really good is when someone stops you to ask what you’re wearing, because it doesn’t get better than that.
Fragrance can feel overwhelming because there’s so much choice, but different scents suit different plans. Fresh or floral scents are perfect for daytime dates, while musky and woody fragrances really come into their own in the evening. Or maybe you’re into a gourmand, like vanilla or matcha. Because scent holds memory, the perfume you pick for your date—whether it’s your first or your 100th—has a habit of sticking in their mind, which is exactly why choosing the right one matters.

Best Overall: Escentric Molecules Molecule 01
Why I love it: An oldie, but a goodie. Whenever someone asks me my all-time favorite scent, I always come back to this OG Escentric Molecules number. It’s basically my signature at this point, and I love that it smells different on everyone (no two people wear it the same, which feels kind of iconic).
The weirdest part is when you first spray it, you’re like… wait, is this doing anything? Then a little while later it properly kicks in, think velvety and woody, and I love that you catch little wafts of it throughout the day. It lasts forever too, I’m talking all day, and I can even smell it on my clothes days later. It’s the kind of perfume people clock from across the room and immediately ask what you’re wearing.
