Only days into 2026, Hailey Bieber is already setting the trend for bags in the new year. Minis, baguettes, and pouches are great and all, but it looks like the ludicrously capacious tote is about to have a real moment. At least, one particular giant carryall is.
And actually, who is not here for a chic purse that can easily hold all of your belongings, plus a laptop, a change of clothes, and a small animal of your choosing? This is the year we can have it all. Or at least carry it.
The first week in January, Bieber uploaded a cache of her vacation photos to Instagram, including one pic with a brand-new triple-XL Chanel executive tote from the 2026 Métiers d’Art collection, which made waves for its New York City subway show. Bieber went with a purposefully unstudied styling, wearing the bag with mismatched camo pants and a hoodie and letting her corded headphones dangle out the side. As if this exclusive new luxury bag, designed by Chanel’s recently appointed creative director Matthieu Blazy, is just what she carries to the gym. (See the photo here.)
And Bieber is not even the first to have this extremely covetable bag. Kylie Jenner posed with the same gigantic Chanel purse in an Instagram post from December 2025. In her photo, Jenner is kneeling on a gray carpet in an uncharacteristically cluttered room. (We won’t speculate that this is Timothée Chalamet’s house, but like…)
All of this is to say that big, big bags are having a moment in 2026—especially slouchy silhouettes with fold-over closures.
If a Chanel tote feels a little out of reach, don’t fret: Bieber recently carried a different oversized carryall while out in Beverly Hills, and it’s equally right now. This single-strap leather tote is a tad more practical for everyday use but still fits into the slouchy, hobo trends that are carrying over into 2026.
You heard it here first, folks: Sometimes, bigger really is better.
