2025 was undeniably the year of the minimalist nail: We came up with so many versions of the clean, pinky-nude manicure—and yes, they are all different—to obsess over. From the BB cream manicure craze that kicked off the year to summer’s soap and glass nails, celebrities set the tone with natural nail shapes, glossy finishes, and complimentary neutral tones.
“I think maybe with all the craziness happening in the world right now, minimalism in beauty feels like a nice balance,” Tom Bachik—celebrity nail artist to Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, and Hailee Steinfeld—told Glamour. “We still want to feel beautiful, but not in a ‘look at me’ sort of way.” And while that meant a lot of milky-nude polish, some statement nail looks also snuck into the 2025 trendsetters list.
From fashion-forward polka-dot manis to hypnotic cat-eye effects, celebrity nails began to trend a bit bolder as the year went on. Juli Russell, nail expert and Sally Beauty ambassador, says to expect even more maximalist takes in 2026: “The last year’s nails have been soft, safe, and minimal by design, but 2026 flips the script,” she predicts. “The result? Nails that feel personal, expressive, and undeniably current.”
