Sure, Timothée Chalamet might’ve lost out at the Oscars. But when it comes to this whole menswear thing, he can’t stop winning.

After pulling up to the main event in a sorbet-yellow suit from Givenchy, the 29-year-old actor switched into something a little lower key for Vanity Fair’s afterparty. And while his silky black dinner jacket and flowy black trousers were far more understated, the look still made a serious statement. That’s because it was designed by Chalamet’s fashion BFF Haider Ackermann, the new creative director of Tom Ford, whom also designed Timmy’s Golden Globes ensemble earlier this year.

Much like that Globes look, the A Complete Unknown star’s Vanity Fair fit offered clues to what we might expect from Ackermann’s Tom Ford. The jacket was riddled with tonal black polka dots, which Ackermann explained in a recent New York Times profile was inspired by a similar dotted suit he purchased from a Tom Ford store back in 2012. On that year’s Met Gala red carpet, Ackermann bumped into Ford himself while wearing it: “[Ford] looked at me and said, ‘Oh, you look so smart.’ I was so happy. Then I realized he was not looking at me. He was looking at his suit. So obviously, you will see black dots in the show.”

It was exactly the sort of traditional dinner jacket style that you’d expect from a house like Tom Ford. But with Ackermann now at the helm, it was injected with just the perfect amount of fun, too.

Because Timmy-Haider linkups have always been a little more out-there. Think about the crimson backless top that he wore to the Venice Film Festival back in 2022, or the chromed-out trousers from 2024’s Dune: Part Two press tour. Ackermann is set to make his Tom Ford runway debut in Paris later this week, and based on what we’ve seen so far, things are looking good.

Chalamet’s next project, Marty Supreme, is scheduled hit theaters in December. And given that film’s tailoring-heavy wardrobe, we’re bound to see even more of Timmy sporting Ackermann’s Tom Ford in 2025. That’s a W any way you slice it.
