Complex’s inaugural Pro-Am, held on November 14th at the Wynn Las Vegas, brought together musicians, athletes, artists, and both professional and aspiring golfers to celebrate the sport’s cultural renaissance. Blending golf with streetwear, music, and entertainment, the event—powered by Michelob Ultra—showcased the fusion of traditional golf and contemporary trends.
Participants competed in a shotgun four-person scramble for the coveted Complex x Michelob Ultra Pro-Am cup, with skateboarder Sean Malto and his team—featuring former NBA player Mike Redd, Jason Krech, and Jack Murphy—taking home the win. The event underscored how golf is evolving to be more inclusive, diverse, and accessible to a new generation, solidifying its place in modern culture.
Prior to the start of the event, Complex sat down with Malbon Golf Co-Founders Stephen and Erica Malbon for a greenside chat, where the duo shared the origins and evolution of their brand, which has redefined golf-inspired streetwear. They explained how Malbon was born from a desire to merge golf style with street culture, targeting a fashion-conscious crowd.
With the brand’s core values of diversity and inclusivity driving every decision, both Stephen and Erica emphasized the importance of diversity, seeing it as crucial both on and off the course.
While they initially faced challenges of bridging the gap between traditional golf culture and streetwear, they are now hopeful as the two believe fashion’s influence on golf is undeniable. As a brand, Malbon acknowledges the importance of collaborations with non-traditional ambassadors to push the sport’s boundaries.
As for the future, the Malbon co-founders envision a continuing evolution of golf fashion, with an emphasis on self-expression. They believe figures like Stephen Curry and Michael Jordan are key in making the game more appealing to a new audience. The 2024 Complex Pro-Am, they said, was a perfect example of how these cultural shifts are playing out, reinforcing Malbon’s mission to make golf more diverse, accessible, and representative of today’s culture.
