Seriously, these are not like her subtle barrel jeans, which eased her into to the trend with a slightly curved silhouette. This time, Holmes went for the baggiest pair she could find, which also featured a frayed, cropped hem that further emphasized the balloon effect of her multitoned denim pants.
If that wasn’t enough drama for one ’fit, Holmes layered her parachute bomber over a creamy white sweater with a gargantuan turtleneck collar, topping everything off with aviators and her favored Khaite tote bag. In fact, the only item in her outfit that wasn’t purposefully oversized were her square-toed Acne loafers, which still feature an unconventional shape.
Overall, this New York City look fits right in with Katie Holmes’s fall 2024 aesthetic, which has been built upon extra-large outerwear, baggy denim, and ludicrously capacious bags that could fit your entire life in their pouches.
As for her latest foray into the controversial barrel-leg trend, I’d say the style has fully reached mainstream appeal—at least, among those of us actively avoiding the inevitable return of skinny jeans. But let Katie Holmes serve as a warning: Once you start embracing the curved silhouette, your pants will just keep getting bigger.
