In a seemingly desperate attempt to please baseball fans all over the city, New York City Mayor Eric Adams found himself in hot water over a hat.

The 64-year-old politician was seen wearing a baseball cap displaying both Mets and Yankees logos on Monday while marching with the NYPD for the 80th annual NYC Columbus Day Parade.

Any true New Yorker who bleeds Mets orange and blue or has an affinity for the Yankee pinstripe pattern knows the rivalry between the city’s two baseball teams is nothing to play with. So, once fans caught a glimpse of the awkward headwear being worn by Adams—whose approval ratings are reportedly dwindling amid his indictment in an ongoing federal corruption investigation—he became fair game for a good, old-fashioned social media roasting.

As noted by the New York Post, Adams likely wore the hat, seemingly from the 2000 World Series, in anticipation of a possible Subway Series between the Mets and the Yankees.

Neither of the MLB teams’ social media managers have responded to the hat on their accounts at the time of this writing, but that didn’t stop New Yorkers from chiming in with their roasts of him on social media. Here are some of the best reactions via X.
