And just like that, asshats are no more.

Depending on the makeup of your respective timeline, you may or may not have already been made privy to a recent Oakland A’s hat design that definitely looked a lot like the word “ASS” had been emblazoned on the front.
In actuality, the hat in question, dubbed the Team Shadow hat, is intended to show the team’s logo casting a “shadow,” of sorts, resulting in the appearance of doubled letters. The placement, as seen below, made the hat appear to read, simply, “ASS” when casually glimpsed.

A Fanatics listing for the hat has since been taken down. At one point, at least according to a flood of would-be ASS hat wearers on Reddit, the design was showing as sold out on the site. An MLB store page once associated with the same design also appears to have been taken down. Notably, this so-called “shadow” design has been used for numerous other teams’ New Era hats in the past. None of them, however, resulted in incidental assery.

Screenshots of a listing for the hat, formally known as the Men’s Oakland Athletics New Era Team Shadow 9FIFTY Snapback, show a price of $36.99.

Complex has reached out to the A’s for comment. This story may be updated.

Notably, the Oakland A’s, at least as they’ve been known for decades now, are also no more in a matter of days. This week, the team will bid adieu to the Oakland Coliseum, a move that’s set to be followed by a few interim years in Sacramento before eventually re-headquartering in Vegas.

Mourning, of course, is best served with a side of the opposite. Get a taste of exactly that below.
