When the New Balance 1906L first popped up earlier this year, not only did it break the internet, it also snapped the sneakerverse in half. Some sneaker guys couldn’t get enough of ’em. But others? Yeah, they weren’t so keen. Are they sneakers? Are they loafers? Are they snoafers? Well, just like the meaning of life, it’s a question that we’ll probably never answer. Something that we do know though, is that it finally has a release date – and it’s much sooner than sneaker pundits initially thought.

Designed by Manchester-based footwear designer Charlotte Lee, the 1906L is based on the classic 1906R silhouette. It features the same breathable mesh base, shiny leather overlays, and glossy heel counter around the back. But unlike the classic 1906R silhouette, the upper has now been loaferized. You won’t find the usual lacing system or “N” logo here. Instead, you get one giant opening for your feet to slip in and out of, and a tongue that’s been swiped from classic penny loafers.
