What’s the difference between sweatpants and joggers?

Generally, joggers are thinner, slimmer, and more socially acceptable to wear out and about than sweatpants. Since they’re crafted from a thinner material, joggers are more breathable and have better cooling than sweatpants, too. While both styles have a similar silhouette, you’ll often see joggers tapered from the knee down, giving them a chic, versatile look.

Are joggers good for working out?

Joggers are great for working out. Made with warm yet breathable fabrics, they can retain heat while allowing your skin to cool down, so outdoor runners will especially love ’em. Because they usually aren’t too baggy and fit relatively close to the legs, they also don’t get in the way while weightlifting.

How should you style joggers?

Dressing down joggers is a piece of cake—all it takes is a pair of sneakers and a hoodie or casual shirt. Wear what you’d wear to the gym, or what you’d wear to the grocery store. To dress your joggers up a bit, though, takes some more work. Sneakers are still the best footwear choice, but feel free to reach for a drippier pair than your running shoes.

Depending on the style of joggers, you might be able to get away with a sweater or even a button-up—the ones that look a bit like chinos will serve you well here. Otherwise, a sweatshirt with a button-up under it, a quarter-zip, or a tee with an unstructured blazer is the way to go.
