We do a lot of vibes testing, but there are a few hard and fast things we look for in outdoor sofas.

Materials – Most important of all, especially if the sofa is in direct sun or rain, are the materials. For the frame, teak and acacia wood are great options, as are aluminum and steel, or even a plastic wicker.

Looks – Obviously, you want your outdoor space to look nice. Realistically we’d prefer something from a proper designer, even if that ups the price, but it will live outside. Don’t spend on something you’re not ready to see age.

Price – Speaking of upping the price, it’s in direct opposition to the looks. Still, even when we went for budget options, we tried to keep a certain amount of taste.

Ease of Use – Does it come with a waterproof cover? If you need to move the cushions, how heavy are they? Could you replace the covers?
