J.Crew Giant-Fit Chino Pants
The Giant-Fit Chino is an infallible classic, and an editor favorite. These pants are the perfect combination of a relaxed skater pant and an business casual chino. In other words, they’re versatile enough to wear with anything you’re wearing jeans with, whether it be a button-down and blazer or a graphic tee and sneakers.

Banana Republic Linen Beach Pants
Linen season is here, folks! Banana Republic is coming in strong with a relaxed drawstring style, with a slightly tapered leg. These are not only comfortable; they’re chic too. Just swap ’em in in place of your jeans and see what I mean. Even your rattiest sweatshirt will look put-together with these on.

Dickies 874 Flex Work Pants
Dickies’ 874 are a classic, every guy’s first slightly better looking that jeans pant. I see them on everyone from skaters in Washington Square Park to commuters getting off in the Financial District, ’cause they’re so easy to dress up or down. These have a comparable weight and structure to denim, and are definitely just as durable, but the relaxed legs and minimalist exterior add some workwear flair to your fit. If you keep them nicely pressed, they look more business than a lot of the stretch-chino alternatives you see in 2025.

Todd Snyder Linen Tab Chinos
I wouldn’t tell you to replace your jeans with just any pair of chino.m They have to step up to the plate in terms of fit and looks. Todd Snyder’s certainly do, with an easy, flattering straight leg, a lightweight linen fabric, and an adjustable waist. These also have belt loops, so you don’t have to sacrifice your favorite belt for ’em.

Percival Pleated Tailored Trousers
You might assume that pleats and tailoring are inherently fancier than your jeans, but I assure you, that doesn’t have to be the case. Percival makes a versatile pair that looks damn good with everything, and certainly much better than denim. Tuck a plain white tee into these pants and throw on some white sneakers, and just tell me I’m wrong.

Flint and Tinder Corduroy Pants
You should run to snatch up these best-selling pants before they’re gone, pal. Flint and Tinder’s corduroy, five-pocket pants are cool, comfortable, and timeless. They look good whether you’re wearing ’em with leather loafers and a freshly-pressed button-down or the last remaining tee you have before laundry day inevitably arrives. These are stretchy and soft with a garment-dyed finish that feels perfectly vintage.

Uniqlo Wide Chino Pants
Of course, when talking basics we have to talk Uniqlo. For 50 bucks, Uniqlo has a pair of casual pants you should definitely stock up on. These are wearable year-long, with everything from sweaters to tank tops. Uniqlo’s basics are infallible, and these pants are no different. They’re roomy but not too baggy, and you can even get them tailored online before they arrive at your door.

Buck Mason Herringbone Twill Full Saddle Field Pant
Honestly, I really fucking love these pants. The high waist makes tucking your shirt in look better than it would in a pair of mid-rise jeans, and the herringbone twill construction is sturdy and comfortable, breaking in more and more as you wear them. As with most things Buck Mason churns out, these are inspired by vintage pants, specifically WWII combat uniforms. These also have a full, straight leg, and a subtle stripe that makes for a nice detail.

Rag & Bone Union Relaxed Straight Cotton Cargo Pants
You can’t talk about casual pants without throwing a cargo into the mix. Rag & Bone has one of my favorite pairs, with an ample amount of pockets, a modern, straight leg that isn’t too baggy, and a versatile wash that you can elevate or laze around in.

Cos Elasticated Linen Straight-Leg Pants
I’ve got another linen pair for you, ’cause with spring here and summer around the corner, you can never have too many. Cos combines comfort and coolness, with a breezy pair that features an elasticated waistband. With a pleat on each leg, these just look better than your jeans do—sharper, more stylish, more intentional—but you don’t have to put in any effort to style them differently.

Everlane Corduroy Trousers
The fit of your favorite jeans, but corduroy instead of denim. What’s not to love? These effortlessly add some texture to your ‘fit, and they look classier than jeans do, too. But don’t worry—your beat-up sneakers will still look good.

Kingsman Slim-Fit Wool and Cashmere-Blend Drawstring Trousers
If you like a slim-fit pant, you’ll love this wool and cashmere pair from Kingsman. The stretchy waist is all about comfort, but the pleats elevates the fit. Throw on a white tee and look like you tried, even when you really didn’t.
Baggy, but not basic. These are going to be a godsend for you come summer, when you want to wear pants but can’t stand to have sweat pooling against your jeans. Lightweight, breezy, and comfortable, these lightly-textured pants are all too easy to slip into and head out the door in.

Why You Can Trust Esquire
We’re big pants people. I’m a big pants person. We’re also menswear experts, and part of our philanthropic duties as such are to make sure you have a well-rounded rotation of pants to choose from, not just a handful of jeans you depend on.
Over the years, we’ve tried, tested, and actually worn thousands of pairs of pants. All 15 on this list are editor-approved; if we don’t already have ’em in our own closets, we want them there.
