Most Packable Sneaker for Walking and Working Out

Asics Gel-Kayano 31

Gel-Kayano 31

Pros

  • Extremely comfortable
  • Works in the gym and out

Cons

  • Very casual style
  • Knit collar gets dirty easily

Every trip I’ve ever gone on where these are not the shoes I pack to wear most of the time, I have regretted every second of it. (This has only happened once.) Yes, these are running shoes and, sure, I’ve run in them a few times. But they are my favorite walking shoes, some of the only that don’t rub against my baby sensitive toes or heels, ones that are soft and easy to get on and keep my feet cushioned all day. If you tend to get swollen, blistered, or otherwise unhappy feet while traveling, these are a lifesaver. Plus, if you’re hitting the gym, you won’t need an extra pair.

Most Packable Flip-Flop

RRL Roughout Suede Flip-Flop

Roughout Suede Flip-Flop

Pros

  • Great fabric
  • Take up next to no space

Cons

  • Very flat
  • Very pricey

If you do not give a damn about… anything, I guess? Then to these RRL suede slides you go. Our Commerce Editor, Luke Guillory, has his eye (not ironically) on them: “I don’t own these, to be fair, but I’m obsessed with them. It’s been a low-hanging joke to hate on flip-flops, but if I saw a guy rocking RRL flip-flops in 2025, I’d actually be impressed. It’s pure function, so basic that it becomes high-level fashion. Obviously don’t wear them to the airport or any dining establishment that’s not open air, but in terms of footwear you can stuff in a bag and pull out for the beach or pool, there is nothing more functional. Plus, the fact they’re real leather means they’ll last a decently long time.”
