Since making its debut in 2019, Sp5der has become one of the most omnipresent streetwear brands on the market. Its graphic-laden sweatsuits are a hot commodity, thanks in large part to the brand’s close affiliation with Young Thug and numerous co-signs from his counterparts such as Metro Boomin and Lil Yachty.
At New York Fashion Week, Sp5der celebrated its five-year anniversary by entering a new chapter. The brand presented its first runway show for its Fall/Winter 2024 collection, “Nocturnal Highway.” As expected, plenty of big names pulled up to support. Quavo, Yeat, Devin Haney, Winnie Harlow, Bloody Osiris, and Veneda Carter were just a handful of the stars peppered across the front row. Kyle Kuzma, Karrahboo, and Alton Mason were among the notable names that walked in the show. While Young Thug’s exact role for Sp5der is still a bit of a mystery, his influence on the imprint is unmistakable. Songs like “Danny Glover” and “Hellcat Kenny” soundtracked the presentation.
For the collection, Sp5der dove deeper into the realm of cut-and-sew that it has been exploring with recent drops, while still maintaining its signature punk-meets-streetwear aesthetic, thanks to an ample amount of arachnid-infused imagery. There were striped sweaters, knit tracksuits, and tan snakeskin zip-ups with fur-lined hoods. Accessories like a cow-print bowling bag with brown leather handles, obnoxiously oversized tote bags featuring a red snakeskin pattern, knit balaclavas with mohawks, and belts with big shiny buckles showed Sp5der’s potential to break into new categories and offer a more well-rounded product assortment in the future.
Of course, Sp5der’s unmistakable sweatsuits made an appearance on the runway, too. Red and black variations were elevated with crystal embellishments. Another set was totally covered in webs. The Sp5der logo branding and crystallized spider web details also showed up in denim jackets, pants, and shorts. Sp5der successfully incorporated some of its established codes to rework familiar looks, rather than just pumping out sweats in new colors.
Young Thug’s girlfriend Mariah the Scientist closed out the show in a cow-print bikini and matching floor-length coat, which made for one of the best moments of the evening.
Unlike most runway collections, you don’t have to wait very long to buy your favorite pieces from the show. The lineup will be dropping on Sp5der’s web store (pun intended) on September 11.
