The self-proclaimed “GOAT” gymnast has received a new Hermés Birkin to perfectly match her 11-time Olympic medal status.
Team USA athlete Simone Biles made history during the 2024 Paris Olympics this summer, and to celebrate, her adoptive parents surprised her with the highly sought-after luxury item. As a child, the 27-year-old was adopted by her maternal grandfather, Ronald Biles, and his second wife, Nellie.
On Wednesday (August 14), Biles shared the news on Instagram Threads, writing, “My parents bought me my hermes bag. “Don’t be mad at me, be mad at your parents.”
Biles’ parents likely picked up on the hint when their daughter went on a Hermés shopping trip, which she posted on her Instagram Stories last Friday (August 9), per People. One image showed an orange Hermés gift box, possibly enclosed with a gift that Biles bought herself. This moment sent some online commenters into a frenzy, with many feeling that the gold-winning gymnast was simply showing off. Meanwhile, some of Simone’s fans came to her defense, arguing that she’s allowed to flex if she wants to.
While the Dallas native has been treating herself to luxury post-Olympic spoils, her parents’ gift also comes just one day after it was published in The Daily Mail that her biological mother, Shanon, would “like to make amends.” The 52-year-old, who resides in Columbus, Ohio, is a recovering addict and sent her daughters, Simone and Adria, into foster care before they were adopted by Ronald and Nellie.
“I wasn’t able to care for them,” Shanon told the British tabloid. “I was still using and [my father] didn’t want me coming and out of their lives when I wasn’t right. … I would like to make amends with Simone personally. I’m just waiting for her and Adria. I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.”
