Robert Downey Jr. is having one hell of a week. He took home a Golden Globe on Sunday in a slick burgundy suit, rolled up to the Governors Awards a couple of nights later in a gorgeous Jaeger-LeCoultre chronograph, and then, during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! yesterday, revealed himself to be a serious sneaker guy.
Arriving at the Kimmel set in Los Angeles, Downey Jr. waved hello to fans and flashed some peace signs to the cameras in a blinding set of civvies: neon bucket hat and tee, camouflage windbreaker, and a pair of baggy khaki sweatpants to lock it all down.
But what really got onlookers gassed up were the shoes on his feet. When Downey Jr. wears sneakers, he normally opts for kicks from luxury houses like Celine, Givenchy, and Marc Jacobs. Yesterday, however, he rocked a pair of true sneakerhead sneakers: the Air Jordan 4 ‘Thunder,’ regarded by many as one of the greatest Air Jordans of all-time.
First released back in 2006, the ‘Thunder’ made a comeback last summer with a splashy reissue. Featuring an all-black nubuck upper, it’s contrasted by hits of electric yellow throughout, along with the model’s iconic mesh panelling and Nike Air soles.
The colorway was already outrageously popular, but with Robert Downey Jr.’s stamp of approval on top of it all? We’d head over to StockX sooner rather than later if you’re hoping to nab a pair of these at a reasonable price.
