Get ready, astrology lovers: There’s about to be a pretty major new moon solar eclipse in Libra.

When we say eclipse, we’re not talking about the Twilight movies (although it is the perfect time of year for a rewatch). We’re talking about October’s lunar events, natch. This October, the first new moon falls in the zodiac sign of Libra, bringing a new sense of balance and equilibrium. Plus, to make matters even more interesting, it also coincides with a solar eclipse, marking new beginnings and change.

In other words, the first October new moon is going to bring up a lot of energetic shifts. Here’s how you can harness them.

When is the new moon in Libra?

The new moon in Libra will occur on October 2, 2024. “This new moon marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle—and with it being in the sign of Libra, it focuses heavily on themes related to balance, relationships, and harmony,” says Fire + Alchemy astrologist Erika O’Connor.

What energetic shifts will this new moon bring?

Because the first new moon in October is due to fall under Libra, it will be a great time to prioritize finding balance and stability in your relationships. Focus on finding a sense of fairness and justice in your relationships with others.

“Libra is the sign of partnerships, so this new moon provides an excellent opportunity to set intentions around your relationships — whether romantic, professional, or social,” says O’Connor. “It’s a time for fresh starts and new approaches in how you connect with others.”

Because Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of beauty, love, and harmony, it’s a great time to focus on finding an equilibrium and a sense of compromise in your relationships.

In some cases, it might mean deciding which relationships are still working for you. “Libra governs one-on-one relationships, so this new moon might prompt you to evaluate the people you surround yourself with,” she says. “Are your connections balanced, or do you give more than you receive?”

In other cases, it might just be a matter of finding a new balance. “This new moon is ideal for resolving conflicts, making peace, and addressing areas where justice or equality is needed, whether in personal matters or within larger societal contexts,” she says.

Outside of relationships, it’s also a great time to focus on beauty, another of Venus’ attributes. “With Venus as Libra’s ruling planet, this new moon is also an excellent time to pursue beauty and creativity,” notes O’Connor. “You might feel inspired to redecorate, start a creative project, or simply enjoy the arts more deeply.”

She concludes, “It’s a great time to set intentions for improving partnerships, seeking justice, and finding peace in various areas of life.”

This new moon coincides with a solar eclipse

To make matters even more interesting, this new moon in Libra also coincides with a solar eclipse, also taking place on October 2.
